The PDP Governorship candidate for Abia State, Prof. Uche Ikonne has challenged Abians to vote for him in the forthcoming 2023 general election and hold him accountable thereafter.
Prof. Ikonne threw the challenge while speaking at the 2022 Abia NUJ Cultural/Veterans Day celebrations held at the Palm Garden, Mater Dei Cathedral, Umuahia. He assured that he is committed to keeping to his manifesto and campaign promises.
Prof. Ikonne, represented by his running mate, Hon. Barr. Okey Igwe informed that his incoming administration would entrench developmental projects in all sectors of the economy with its TIGER Economy policy thrust. He explained that the TIGER Economy , which stands for Trade, Industrialization, Good governance and Rural development are the template of his developmental agenda in the State.
He stated that Abia needs to make a quantum leap in infrastructure and assured that he would sustain the infrastructural strides of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and appealed to journalists and all Abians at large to support his ambition
The Governorship hopeful, who described the theme of the event “The Role of the Media in Preserving our Culture: Saving the Igbo Language from Extinction” as apt, said the need to revive and keep various Igbo culture alive, especially, the Igbo language cannot be overemphasized, said the press plays a critical role in the society and should sustain the role and congratulated NUJ on her programme.
The Governorship candidate was accompanied to the event by members of Uche Ndi Abia Campaign Organization.
