NIS Dismisses Four Officers, Demotes 14 Others Over Various Offences.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the dismissal of some of its personnel over alleged involvement in uncultured acts.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the spokesman of the NIS, DCI Tony Akuneme, revealed that at least four personnel were sacked after they were found wanting for various offences.
Akuneme disclosed that fourteen other officials were demoted after appearing before the Orderly Room Trial Committee of the Service.
The NIS mouthpieces noted that the treatment meted at the personnel was a part of efforts to rid the Service of bad eggs and furtherance of the Federal Government’s fight against corruption.
Akuneme revealed, however, that two other personnel were redeployed to other locations, while 11 others were issued warning letters and one compulsorily retired from service.
The Committee, according to the statement, said 11 personnel were still awaiting trial, and four other personnel were discharged and acquitted.
The spokesman assured the general public that there are no sacred cows in the NIS as all offenders shall be appropriately sanctioned without fear or favour.
He admonished members of the public to be vigilant and support the Service to deliver more on its mandate by contacting the NIS for feedback, inquiries and complaints on any of its channels.
