1.IPOB seeks conversion of Abia cattle market to Trade Fair Centre
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has advised the Abia State Government to make the Lokpanta Cattle market, Ummunnechi Local Council and its environment safe and productive.
Spokesman of the separatist, Comrade Emma Powerful in a statement titled: “We Urge Abia State Governor To Revoke Permit Or Relocate Lokpanta Cattle Market,” called for the revocation of whatever permit if any, granted for the establishment of the market.

2.Over 400 Killed, 3,500 Hurt In Sudan Fighting- WHO

More than 400 people have been killed and over 3,500 others hurt in the fighting in Sudan, the World Health Organization said Friday.
“Four hundred and thirteen people have died and 3,551 people have been injured … that we know of,” WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris told reporters at a press briefing in Geneva.
The UN children’s agency UNICEF added that at least nine children were among the dead and more than 50 children had been wounded.

3.Troops Kill 63 Terrorists, Free 150 Kidnap Victims – Report

Authorities of the Nigerian Armed Forces have disclosed that its troops neutralized sixty-three (63) Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa terrorists between the beginning of March and the 15th of April.
In addition to neutralizing the terrorists, the troops also liberated over 150 victims in the course of their different operations across the country, including Hadarin Daji, Hadin Kai, and Delta Safe.

 

4.Sudan conflict: 1,262 Nigerian students demand evacuation, 330 residents killed

Nigerian students numbering over 1,262 have appealed to the Federal Government to evacuate them from the Republic of Sudan where a fierce military confrontation between the Sudanese armed forces and the paramilitary group, Rapid Support Force, has claimed 330 lives with 3,200 injured.
The Secretary-General of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Sudan, Adam Mohammed, who said this in an interview with CASAT-TV on Thursday, lamented that many students had run out of food.

5.CBN dormant account policy triggers anxiety in banking sector

Banks and their customers have raised concerns over the Central Bank of Nigeria’s proposed plan to mop up funds from dormant accounts. While the proposal is not new, stakeholders argue that it could potentially have unintended consequences on the banking sector.

6.Buhari approves suspension of Adamawa REC

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has approved the immediate suspension of the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Adamawa State, Mr Hudu Yunusa-Ari, pending the completion of investigation by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, into the conduct/actions of the REC during the recently-concluded controversial supplementary election in Adamawa State.
The President has also directed the immediate investigation, and prosecution, if found liable, of Yunusa-Ari, by the IG.

 

7.Muslims Gather To Mark Eid El-Fitr Amid Calls For Compassion, Unity

Today is Eid el-Fitr, a day Muslims mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan. As millions of the faithful gather across Nigeria, they are enjoined by religious leaders to reflect on and maintain the virtues of the season.
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, had declared Friday (today) as the first day of Shawwal 1444AH in Nigeria.

8.DSS Arrests Suspects Transporting Arms For Planned Attack ‘In Northern State’

The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed the arrest of two gunmen in Kano State allegedly transporting arms for a planned attack in a northern state.
The DSS’ Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, in a statement late Thursday night, said the suspects were in possession of two AK-47 assault rifles, two empty AK-47 magazines, a red Boxer motorcycle, and a sack of yams in which the guns were concealed.

9.Bandits Invade Benue Community, Kidnap Five from Farm

The activities of Armed Bandits across Benue Communities have continue unabated with the latest being the attack on Ingle Otanufe Community in Okpokwu Local Government area of the state by gunmen where no fewer than five people were abducted on their way from the farm.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at about 6; 00 pm when the victims, which a source close to the community said were picked from different locations on their way from the farms.
The latest incident on Wednesday makes it exactly two years when a similar abduction took place in the community when Gunmen in their numbers went away with five people, including a married woman.

10.South Africa to mark 29 years of democracy, bilateral relations

Starting tomorrow, the Consulate General of the Republic of South Africa in Lagos will host the first-ever South Africa Week Celebrations.
The celebrations, which will take place from April 22 to 29, is to commemorate the 29th Anniversary of South Africa’s democracy and 29 years of formal diplomatic relations between South Africa and Nigeria.
Themed, Celebrating 29 Years of South Africa’s Democracy and Bilateral Relations Between South Africa and Nigeria, the event aims to celebrate years of democracy and freedom.
